Ignite Power Announces Strategic Partnership with World Bank’s $270 Million Pro Energia+ Program
to Accelerate Energy Access in Mozambique
Maputo, Mozambique – August 12, 2025
Ignite Power, a leading pan-African distributed infrastructure company, is pleased to announce signing a strategic partnership with the World Bank’s $270 million Pro Energia+ Program in Mozambique, marking a major milestone in the company’s mission to provide clean, affordable, and tech-enabled infrastructure to last-mile communities. The partnership will unlock significant new opportunities to scale operations across Mozambique, targeting millions of unconnected households over the coming years.
Through this collaboration with the World Bank, Bamboo Capital Partners, the program’s facility manager, and FUNAE, the implementer, Ignite Power will leverage Results-Based Financing (RBF) mechanisms to expand its reach to some of the most remote and underserved communities in the country. The Pro Energia+ Program, designed to increase electricity access through private sector participation, is a cornerstone of the World Bank’s commitment to advancing universal electrification as part of its broader Mission 300 goal: connecting 300 million people in Africa by 2030.
“We are proud to join forces with the World Bank, Bamboo Capital Partners, and FUNAE, under the Pro Energia+ Program,” said Arthur Houston, Managing Director of Ignite Mozambique. “This partnership is not only a powerful endorsement of our operational model and technological edge, but also a major acceleration of our vision to connect millions more Mozambicans with clean and affordable electricity.”
Ignite Mozambique: A Proven Track Record of Impact
Ignite Power enters the Pro Energia+ Program with a uniquely established footprint and a record of transformative impact across Mozambique. Since launching operations in the country, Ignite Mozambique has rapidly become the leading provider of Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) solutions, delivering clean, affordable electricity to some of the country’s most underserved communities.
To date, Ignite Mozambique has connected more than 200,000 households across seven provinces, directly improving the lives of over 1.2 million people. These are not just numbers — they represent families gaining access to light for the first time, students able to study after sunset, health centers operating safely at night, and small businesses thriving through newfound access to energy. For hundreds of thousands of Mozambicans, Ignite Power has turned energy access from aspiration into reality.
The company’s rapid growth has been driven by its deep rural presence and customer-first approach. By operating in regions previously left out of national electrification plans, Ignite Mozambique has demonstrated the viability of deploying sustainable energy solutions in even the most logistically and economically challenging environments.
Scaling Access through Innovation and Technology
Ignite Power’s approach to energy access goes far beyond basic electrification. By combining innovation, a customer-centric approach, and scalable technology, the company delivers a broad spectrum of distributed infrastructure solutions tailored to meet the evolving needs of rural households and communities.
At the core of Ignite Power’s offering are its ultra-affordable solar home systems, designed for rapid deployment in even the most remote locations. These systems provide first-time access to clean electricity, enabling families to power lights, charge phones, and access basic appliances, all through flexible, pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) plans designed to accommodate low-income households.
Beyond lighting, Ignite Power is driving rural transformation by deploying productive-use technologies that enhance livelihoods and community resilience. Its portfolio includes solar-powered irrigation systems that increase agricultural output and reduce reliance on rain-fed farming, as well as cold storage and milling solutions that support food preservation, post-harvest processing, and small-scale enterprise development. These technologies are already creating measurable improvements in income, food security, and quality of life across their areas of operation.
Underpinning all of these services is Ignite Power’s proprietary digital platform, a fully integrated operating system that manages everything from customer onboarding and mobile payments to fleet logistics and field agent coordination. Combined with its advanced digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) tools, the platform enables full visibility into operations, ensures real-time compliance with RBF program requirements, and provides partners with transparent, auditable data at every step of the value chain.
Setting the Standard for Operational Excellence in RBF Program Delivery
Ignite Power’s participation in the Pro Energia+ Program builds on years of proven success delivering under Results-Based Financing (RBF) frameworks across Africa. As one of the continent’s most experienced and trusted RBF operators, Ignite Power has consistently demonstrated the ability to scale impact while maintaining the highest standards of compliance, operational integrity, and data transparency.
From the early stages of the BRILHO program in Mozambique (funded by UKAID and implemented by SNV) to large-scale partnerships with the World Bank and Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA), Ignite Power has continually outperformed sector benchmarks. Its ability to deliver complex programs across vast geographies and challenging terrains has earned the company a reputation for reliability and results. In Mozambique, as well as in several other countries, Ignite Power has been recognized as a top-performing partner, consistently reaching or exceeding deployment targets while ensuring verifiable, high-quality outcomes.
Ignite Power’s operational model emphasizes local capacity building, field training, and continuous performance monitoring, creating a robust ecosystem that can scale quickly while maintaining consistency and quality. This disciplined, tech-enabled approach positions Ignite Power as an ideal partner for governments, development finance institutions, and RBF program managers seeking to deliver rapid, measurable impact.
As the Pro Energia+ Program moves forward, Ignite Power brings not only the scale and expertise to deliver results but also the institutional readiness and technical capacity to raise the standard for what’s possible in last-mile electrification. This new partnership is a natural continuation of a long-standing commitment to excellence — one that has already transformed millions of lives, and is now set to reach millions more.
“This partnership represents a new chapter for energy access in Mozambique,” continued Houston. “It reinforces the belief that we can reach everyone, no matter how remote, when the right technologies, partners, and financing structures come together.”
A Shared Vision: 100 Million Connections by 2030
This partnership with the World Bank, Bamboo Capital Partners, and FUNAE is a critical step forward in advancing Ignite Power’s ambition to connect 100 million people across Africa by 2030. It also directly supports the World Bank’s Mission 300 initiative and Mozambique’s national electrification goals.
With operations across 9 African countries, a proven ability to scale rapidly, and the sector’s most advanced digital infrastructure, Ignite Power is uniquely positioned to transform how infrastructure is delivered, building a more inclusive, sustainable, and connected future for all.
